I feel I have been subject to the unscrupulous actions and business practices by a Gillece representative. On Friday 27 Jan 2012, I called a Gillece to have a plumber sent to my home. We had a stopped up toilet in the basement.

The plumber came to the house used my plunger unsuccessfully to free the blockage. He then went to his truck and got a small snake and again failed to free the blockage. In doing so he splashed the water all over our basement floor, we understood that, but he failed to clean up after his self.

He then explained that he would need to pull the toilet and use the “big” snake. I said ok and asked for an estimate. He went out to his truck, wrote the estimate up and explained to us it would be $1,827 to rectify the problem.

I was thinking a few hundred dollars and said so to him. He explained to me that I had no basement door so he would have to carry the equipment down the steps and he would need help doing so. He would have to lay drop clothes and would need to pull the toilet. He would then snake the line, reset the toilet, clean up and carry all the equipment back up the steps.

I felt that the quote was ridiculous so I called a second plumber. He came out looked things over and found a clean out trap under my deck, the Gillece plumber never even looked. The second plumber said at worst, I would need to cut a hole in the deck, so he could access the trap. But, he thought he could pull the toilet and snake it free, which he did.

All in all, the second plumber was at my house for about 1 hr". Total charges to pull the toilet, free the blockage and reseat the toilet was $179 total/. That was $1652 cheaper than Gillece?.

I must point out that Gillece did not charge me for their feeble attempt of the repair and the ridiculous estimate|. However, I feel that they did not deal with me in a fair manner and tried take advantage of the situation". I will never do business with them again and will share with friends the experience|. I heard they we cheats but, I thought it was just talk,. I can supply the names an written estimate if necessary'. Thanks, al

I just had a guy from gilece over for an estimate on a clogged drain. I like to shop around and until getting this estimate I was concerned that the $1900 i was quoted for a full line replacement was as exhorbitant an amount as I would see. The ludacris $6,900 estimate from gilese proved me wrong. That outfit goes well beyond 'rip-off' to unconscionable.....

I called Gillece last night because my main sewer line would not drain.

The guy they sent (Joe) was nice, sent 6 lengths of wire down the pipe and couldn't unclog it. Called for a supervisor.

They had a guy get into an accident a man down and couldn't get the scope until this morning.

Guy came in and scoped the drain, managed to get 32.5' out of the clean-out and couldn't go any further because of the roots.

He said that the pipes being clay, and the roots being so thick that even having a cutter in there would probably shatter the pipe.

Since the tree is on borough property between curb and sidewalk suggested that I check with the Sewer Authority, Borough and Insurance carrier.

I didn't pay anything for the snake or scope. The guys were nice albeit waiting for 4hrs to get the snake guy there and the scoper being scheduled for 8 and showing at 8:45 is a bit disheartening overall not bad.

Estimate to replace pipe (this is a ballpark assuming that nobody helps pay for anything and them having to replace 40' clay pipe, dig up street, sidewalk, stairs was "20K")

I only owe $22k for my house.

At least you got away. Some people are not so lucky. Now go and write a bad review anywhere you can. Tell your neighbors, tell all!
