Steer clear of this scam-artist heating and cooling company!

Woke up Christmas Eve morning to a chilly house ... our 6-year-old furnace had gone out. These guys, of course, were the first to respond to several calls, and sent someone out within a few hours for a $95 diagnostic fee.

The technician, a nice enough fellow, opened up the furnace and immediately diagnosed the problem as a failed inducer exhaust blower motor. He went on to explain that my exhaust piping was too narrow and had too many bends, causing too much strain on the motor (yeah, in only 6 years). Gillece could be kind enough to repair the blower for $1,200 that same day -- but it would come without a warranty. To get a warranty, and for the company to evaluate the exhaust deducting, I'd have to shell out $2,000. Or I could choose to have a whole new furnace put in for $6,300.

I'm a numbers guy, and something immediately didn't add up. One small part for $2,000, or a whole new furnace for $6,000. Uh-huh. So I grabbed my iPhone and searched for the part and quickly realized that this thing was $150 online!. OK, so Gillece can triple that price, charge me $450 for it:. I'm fine with that.. But $1,600 for an hour's worth of labor to replace it? Puh-leeeeeeze'.

Fortunately, a lawyer friend of mine found out Gillece was at our house and I immediately started receiving texts to never, ever sign a contract with these jerks,. And he pointed me to a story that a Gillece sales person had told a homeowner that her miscarriage was likely caused by her plumbing,. What a bunch of unethical jerks:.

And, of course, as the technician was leaving, he conveniently received a call from his boss, who was willing to take another $600 off the cost of a new furnace if I signed that same day, because the installers were getting paid to sit at home:. He was doing me a favor!

I realize these guys are out to make a buck. I do. And they are entitled to a premium over everyday, non-emergency HVAC work. But 1,000% markups? That's neither fair nor just. I consider myself one of the lucky ones, in that I didn't sign a contract to have Gillece do any work ... and I'm making it my mission to warn others of this awful, awful company. 35b1aba
