Discovered my heat pump wasn't initiating defrost cycle. Ran advanced diagnostics from the thermostat to find coil sensor errors. Called the installing contractor and was quoted a $120 emergency fee, I declined. Called Gillece and was quoted a $95 emergency fee. I thought "What the heck" I'll save myself $25 from the outset and scheduled an appointment between 10AM and 2PM and was told the technician would call 30 minutes prior to arriving. During those four hours I decided to educate myself about what the problem may actually be, turns out it's the coil thermistor, defrost controller board, or both. In the interim I also discovered this website and all the complaints against Gillece Plumbing/Heating, some describing their business tactics, intrusive questioning, scamming and rescheduling if they don't feel they're going to make any money. My experience was textbook to what others have said. I was barraged with questions about the age of my home, my heat pump, whether I rented or owned and if I was interested in "any other services" while they were there. I told them "no" to the other services as well as not coming across as naive to what the problem might be with my heat pump, then waited for the technician to call!.

Four and a half hours pass and still no call from Gillece:. At this point I'm getting second thoughts, and I'm glad I did.. I called Gillese to cancel my appointment, never indicating that they didn't follow-up". I was quickly transferred to a gentleman who sounded like a salesman who asked why I was cancelling'. I told him I fixed the problem myself and hung up". I called my original HVAC contractor to schedule an appointment, they had a technician call me back within 10 minutes who diagnosed the same issue as what I had found on the Internet:. He assured me that it wasn't indicative of an emergency let alone the charges,. Within 2 minutes he talked me through setting my heat pump into emergency heat mode over the phone and suggested scheduling an appointment during the week to avoid any extra charges and to be sure they had the parts in stock.

Thanks to those less fortunate who've posted their experiences with Gillece, I'm confident you saved me from becoming another sucker statistic. 35b3992

Good for you! You should of told them a wrong address and let them come out to a random house out in the boonies!

I called Gillece too and fortunately for myself I never made it past the entire phone call because any receptionist that sounds like that and asks all of those questions puts up a huge red flag for me. It was scripted and unnatural sounding. Then when I asked why it mattered how old my house was she very rudely told me she needed to know this information. For what?? I was calling about my furnace it has nothing to do with how old or how new my house is. And when i refused to give my e-mail she went on a sales pitch why I should give it to her and I hung up. If it sounds like a scam, looks like a scam, smells like a scam then it's a scam!
