A recently widowed friend of mine, living in a 10-year-old residence, called Gillece to take advantage of their "$19.95 air conditioning check." While she was inside turning on the A/C, the technician was outside tampering with the unit so that it would make loud noises while running. He quoted her a price of $6700 to replace the unit, then asked to see her furnace.

ALthough he acknowledged that the furnace "wasn't in bad shape for a 10-year-old furnace," he recommended an upgrade for an additional $3000+, bringing her total quote to almost $10,000.

The next day she consulted with a RELIABLE contractor of her acquaintance, who explained how the technician probably tampered with the unit to cause the noise, and that she did not yet need either an air conditioner or a furnace, and finally told her what a reasonble price would be for those two replacements if and when she does need them.

This is very possibly the most dishonest contractor in western Pennsylvania! Tell your friends and family to steer clear. 1294303

Substantial and essential things must not be left under the guise of dishonest contractors. Let us be vigilant in choosing such.

Just an update: Gillece has since then called my friend to try to collect the $19.95 fee for her air conditioner check. She informed the caller that their employee didn't come out to check her air conditioner, he came out to rip her off. She refused to pay. The employee apologized and went on her way. Wouldn't want to have her job.

Everytime I see one of those Gillece commercials it grinds in my stomach. Then to see their employees post bogus happy stuff on these complaint boards ticks me off even more. Do they think we're dumb too?

These people need to be on the show 60 Minutes. Then they should legally be made to compensate all the people they hurt.

OK, folks, I submitted this story becasue my friend is a good Christian turn-the-other-cheek kind of lady, and it infuriated my that some shyster tried to take advantage of her good nature.

I called him a technician because I needed to describe him some way, but obviously he was more interested in sales than in analyzing her system, and neither term is what I would prefer to use to describe him, but I'm tryng to keep it clean here.

If the Anonymous person who gave the name is indeed my friend, then Hi Shag and thanks for the input! I don't think it matters who it was; if you check this site you will find 8 full pages of similar complaints about Gillece ... just stay clear of them and you'll be a happier, wealthier individual!!!!

Did your friend get the dishonest technicians name? I think it's time to expose these people and the people who work for them.
